In today's world, dominated by screens in both our personal and professional lives, many individuals struggle to find inspiration. The rapid gratification and the feeling of losing track of time contribute to this challenge. Our minds are becoming hooked on quick fixes readily available online.
Occasionally, we find ourselves questioning the purpose of getting out of bed or undertaking various tasks.
Art can be an excellent escape from the endless scrolling cycle! And even more than that, it can help you start a change of habits! Why? Because Art requires patience. And this is something we have to re-educate our brain to accept and process.
However, you might wonder where the inspiration for creating art originates if we're not finding it to deal with our daily routine.
Here are some helpful tips that may appear tooooo simple to be effective, but trust me, they truly are!
Slow down! - start your morning with a little devotion (doesn't matter which faith or religion you follow). A few minutes of some deep breath and gratitude are enough!
Get in contact with nature - whether it's in your own garden or a park or public garden. Taking a short walk by the sea or in a forest. Whatever you choose, take that moment to contemplate your surroundings - no phones, no big thoughts about anything but what you see, smell and feel. Gently touch nature! Touch the bark of a tree, feel the velvety surface of a flower, smell the flowers, touch a dog or a cat or a horse 😁 or whatever friendly animals you might find.
Pay attention to little details - On your commute to work or back home, you might feel as though you know those streets as well as the back of your hand. But, wait! What's that tree over there? Was this little stone always here? Those bushes beside that shop are blooming right now!
Start writing positive things you saw or experienced today (and it can be done or drawn on you sketchbook 😉 Some little, simple things - you saw a first bumblebee or a butterfly after all those cold days, or maybe you enjoyed having a cup of coffee with a good friend, or you simply enjoy the sound of the rain...
Look up! - Watch the sky, take some minutes to watch the sunrise or sunset and how light changes and the different colours and lights and shadows in moonlight or sunshine.
Read - Reading is not that easy anymore, I know. It requires focus and attention for a longer period of time. But reading some good and interesting stuff and increasing your reading time everyday a bit more will help you gather and refine ideas.
If you haven't started making art yet, begin learning! And if you already do, I'm confident these tips will inspire you to continue creating. Additionally, consider exploring other techniques or new media!
